What to Expect at 20–24 Weeks of Pregnancy

 Baby’s Development

Size: Baby grows from about 25 cm to 30 cm in length, weighing between 300 g and 600 g.
Movements: You’ll feel stronger, more frequent kicks and flips as muscles strengthen.
Skin: Still thin and covered with vernix caseosa and lanugo.
Hearing: Baby responds to your voice and external sounds—talking, reading, or playing music can stimulate bonding.
Organs: Lungs continue to develop, though not yet ready for breathing outside the womb.
Taste buds are forming—baby can taste amniotic fluid flavours.
Facial Expression: Baby may yawn, suck their thumb, and practice facial movements.

 Changes in Your Body

Belly Growth: Uterus is now above your belly button, making your bump more visible.
Increased Appetite: Baby’s rapid growth may make you hungrier.
Possible Discomforts: Backache, pelvic pressure, leg cramps, mild swelling in feet or hands.
Linea Nigra: A dark line may appear on your belly due to hormonal changes.
Breathing Changes: As the uterus expands, you may feel slightly short of breath.
