    Frequently Asked Questions

Having been in the business for some time know you have many questions that you would like to ask. This is why we have put together a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

Feel free to get in touch with us if there is anything else you would like to know.

We have been adviser due to various medical legal issues not to record any consultation sessions which unfortunately include the heartbeat.

An ultrasound scan, sometimes called a sonogram, is a procedure that uses high - frequency sound waves to create an image of part of the inside of the body.

An ultrasound scan can be used to monitor an unborn baby, diagnose a condition, or guide a surgeon during certain procedures.

A pregnancy Ultrasound is an imaging test that uses high frequency sound waves to create pictures of a baby in the womb, as well as the mother’s reproductive organs.

Along with a standard 2D Ultrasound, there are a number of different, more advanced, Ultrasounds including a 3D Ultrasound and a 4D Ultrasound.

This is "standard" or "conventional" Ultrasound scan which provides an image in two dimensions.  During these 2D scans you can see position of the baby and visible heartbeat. 2D scans are therefore still the most common form of Ultrasound. 2D Ultrasounds are used for Dating Scans as well as to determine the sex (gender) of your baby.

A 3D Ultrasound follows the same procedure as a standard Ultrasound, but uses a special probe and software to create the 3D image. It also requires special training for the technician.

Unlike a traditional 2D Ultrasound, a 3D Ultrasound allows you to see the width, height and depth of the baby and sonographers and parents can also view baby’s hands, feet and face.  These images are also be recorded for parents to keep.

A 4D Ultrasound creates a moving video of the fetus. This creates a better image of the baby’s face and movements. A 4D Ultrasound is also better able to capture highlights and shadows. A 4D Ultrasound is done in a similar manner to other Ultrasounds, but with special equipment.

2D is a black and white ultrasound. The picture shows no dimensions of the baby. 3D ultrasound captures a three-dimensional image of your baby. 3D is a still image, while 4D adds the element of motion so it looks like a video.

Many mothers like coming in twice – once early on (16-26 weeks) when they can see the baby as a whole, and once between 26-34 weeks to see a more detailed face. Every baby is different, and we obtain great images at all times!

Extensive studies have found that ultrasound does not cause harm to the mother or the baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now normal and in 3D/4D scanning, the same type of ultrasound waves is used.

A dating scan is an Ultrasound scan to determine how many weeks pregnant you are and your due date.

A dating scan might be recommended to confirm your due date if you are unsure of your last menstrual period or your date of conception. It is usually offered to pregnant women from 10 weeks to 13 weeks gestation, but can be carried out any time from 6 weeks.

The baby's heart starts to beat at around 6 weeks. You will be able to hear – and see – your baby's heart beat for the first time when you come for a Dating, Gender or 3D / 4D Scan. The recording with NOT have the baby's heartbeat but you are more than welcome to make your own recording.

We are the only 3D/4D Scanning practice with a sophisticated online booking system allowing you to book your appointment online. Once booked you will receive an SMS and Email to confirm your booking. Once confirmed, your appointment will be scheduled. Closer to the appointment date you will receive an SMS reminding you of the appointment as well as directions to the facility where we will do the scan.

At 16 weeks, we can determine the gender with a very high accuracy.

Routine diagnostic ultrasounds are extremely important. That is why we offer all the scans needed for your pregnancy. Visits to your gyneacologist or clinic is extremely important. We work with gyneacologists and clinics to perform the ultrasound scans needed and that is why many gyneacologists, midviwes and clinics refer their patients to us.

We do not deal directly with Medical Aids and payment has to be done on the day of the scan.

Depending on the baby, some sleep throughout the ultrasound or keep their face down while others are quite active. At times, you can see your little one touching his/her face, sucking his/her thumb, and smiling. Depending on the baby’s positon and gestational age, each image will vary. Our team makes every effort to obtain the best possible images of the parts of the baby that can be seen.

We want our guests to feel comfortable what we find best and convenient is a two piece outfit.

Be sure to drink plenty of fluids and eat 30 minutes prior to your appointment. Best results are obtained when the baby is most active.
